Efforts should be made to spend quality time in preparing both your resume/CV and your cover letter. To prepare eye catching resume/CV, the following rules should be adhere to:
  1. Maintain a one page resume if you have not worked for 10 years and above
  2. If you have worked for ten years and above limit your resume to two pages,HR specialist have a maximum time of about 60 seconds to view your resume so why wasting your time preparing a six pages resume/CV.
  3. The first thing you need to consider is the title of your resume/CV, note that the title of your CV is your name and not Curriculum Vitae.
  4. Next is your current address, your valid phone numbers and your official email address.
  5. The next item is your background/professional summary: professional summary showcases your strength and special skills and the value you want to add to the organization.
  6.  Next is your work experience. In preparing your work experience, you need to start from the position you held i.e what you did, the name of the organization and when you did it.This should be arranged on last come first basis
  7. Next is your Educational/professional training: If you have a first degree and perhaps you are a certified member of a professional body kindly highlight them.
Things/items to avoid putting on your CV: do not include personal details like number of children, genotype, blood group, religion affiliation etc. This can impede your chances of been selected for interview. Every potential employer will provide detailed application form that will request you to give full details of your history, so refrain from giving unnecessary information about yourself.
